Child Vomiting and Diarrhea: When Should You Go to the ER?

Admin | 1 Agustus 2026 | 133

Vomiting and diarrhea in children can often improve with home care. However, these conditions can also lead to dangerous dehydration if not treated quickly.

Bring your child to the Emergency Room (ER) immediately if they:

  • Refuse to drink or vomit continuously.

  • Are extremely weak or difficult to wake up.

  • Have sunken eyes, dry lips, or have not urinated for more than 6–8 hours.

  • Have bloody diarrhea.

  • Have a high fever or seizures.

  • Are an infant under 3 months old experiencing vomiting or diarrhea.

Do not wait until your child's condition worsens. Prompt treatment can prevent complications caused by dehydration.

Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta's ER is on standby 24/7 to provide medical assistance for emergencies.
