When accompanying an inpatient, family members are often the first to notice any changes in condition. Therefore, do not hesitate to call the nurse immediately if the patient suddenly experiences shortness of breath, severe pain, extreme weakness, confusion, difficulty waking up, seizures, repeated vomiting, bleeding, swollen or painful IV site, or a near-fall.

Even if you are not sure what is happening, any changes in condition that concern the family should still be reported to the staff. It is better to have it checked early than to wait for the symptoms to worsen.
